Caring for our Clients
Accuracy - First and Foremost
We understand your reputation depends on us. We also understand the trust you place upon us.
Rapid delivery times reflect the most efficient means of providing you with results while upholding research standards of analytical quality.
We
maintain an extensive written Quality Assurance program
that is audited each
year by the United States Geological Survey and Department
of Energy. We are
the only professional radiocarbon dating laboratory
that is "QA Qualified"
for work at sensitive USGS and DOE sites and we participate
in all
recognized International Radiocarbon Intercalibration
Studies, such as IAEA,
TIRI, FIRI and VIRI.
Operating with a Full-Time
Professional Staff
Beta Analytic is a dedicated radiocarbon dating laboratory. It's sole mission since 1979 is to provide academic and industrial researchers with high accuracy radiocarbon dating results within a promised, rapid delivery time.
The founders, Dr. Murry Tamers ( Ph.D. Yale University. D.Sc. Universite' de Paris, Sorbonne) and Dr. Jerry Stipp (Ph.D Australian Natrional University) were originators in radiocarbon dating theory and technologies. Since the early 1960s their research and visions have contributed to the wide-spread application of radiocarbon dating and the availability of radiocarbon dates to the general scientific research community. Their knowledge has been instilled in a
professional staff now having more
than 160 years combined knowledge and experience in radiocarbon dating. The laboratory Principals, Darden Hood (President), Ron Hatfield and Christopher Patrick (Deputy Directors) are recognized experts in all aspects of radiocarbon dating. All technicians
are full time personnel who give your samples undivided
attention, without the distraction of personal research,
teaching, or administrative duties. Each staff member
is committed to providing you with the highest degree
of analytical quality for each and every sample. Someone
is always available to discuss your sample requirements,
give you advice on how to proceed, and to discuss
results. BETA does not analyze samples with
students or part-time researchers who would necessarily
be distracted with other obligations and priorities.

We use AMS ANALYSIS for smaller samples (with as little as 100 micrograms
of final carbon) and RADIOMETRIC ANALYSIS for larger samples
(containing 2 to 4 grams final carbon). The two methods
are equally accurate for optimal sized samples but AMS will always provide better precision. The
advantage of radiometric analysis is lower cost (~1/2
the cost of an AMS date). The advantage of AMS is
much smaller sample size and higher precision. Delivery options for both services are the same.
Since the actual prescription for analysis
is often not known prior to some examination and pretreatment,
it may not be obvious to you which method to request. We
are glad to provide you with a BEST METHOD approach upon request. First select the best samples for your research objectives
regardless of size and condition. Request "radiometric analysis" for each. Also request that a professional
contact you after preliminary examination to discuss
the appropriate prescription for analysis (and exact
cost). You always have the option to modify your submittal.
Conversion from one method to another is done with
little to no delay in delivery of results.
Submittal of additional material or alternative samples
is always welcome.
Customer Care
We will take care of you. Contact us any time and expect a professional and prompt response to your inquiries. Someone is always available to take care of you during normal working hours (Mon-Fri ~ 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST).
You are always welcome to contact us both before and after submittals to discuss your needs, concerns, and questions.
We take your inquires very seriously and will always strive to promptly address your needs.
